COVID-19 - A Message from our CEO - June 2021

As you are doubtless aware, it is being increasingly reported in the media that the Prime Minister will announce on the 19th of July that the mandatory mask wearing requirement and other COVID-19 infection control (preventative) measures will be scrapped and that the Government will invite the public, employers and perhaps operators of major public amenities to use their own judgement and common sense.

This move would appear to be in stark contrast with medical and scientific advice (most notably the BMA) and which trade unions have characterised as ‘gross negligence’.

For the avoidance of doubt and to assure the mutual safety of our staff and customers, Azure Garden Centre will continue to operate and enforce existing COVID-19 infection controls and preventative measures including social distancing for the foreseeable future and at least until all our staff have received their two COVID-19 vaccinations.  Until all our staff have received their COVID-19 vaccinations, our café-restaurant will remain closed to the general public and customers will still be required to wear masks and to respect social-distancing measures in our Garden Centre.

We are immensely grateful for your support these last 18 months and while we, like you, all yearn for a return to normality; we are not prepared to place either your personal health and safety, or that of our staff, at risk because we are weary of COVID-19 restrictions, or, on account of what is also being characterised by commentators as a ‘more populist approach’ (by the new Health Minister/Prime Minister) to the management of the pandemic.

Stay safe & protect the NHS

COVID-19 - A Message from our CEO - 12th May 2020

First, we hope you and yours are staying safe and well.

Secondly, we would like to thank you for your understanding and support these last two months as we have endeavoured to keep our Charity and, not least, our Garden Centre going in what remain exceptionally challenging conditions.  Your messages and many kindnesses over these last few weeks mean a great deal to us all.

While we have been operating a Click & Collect and Home Delivery service in these last months, following the Prime Minister’s statement and the publication of detailed guidance that has advised Garden Centres may open from Wednesday, we’re pleased to announce that we will be opening our Garden Centre tomorrow.

As you would expect and for our mutual comfort our shared personal health and safety, we will be implementing social distancing measures in store.

These measures will be maintained in a constant state of review and will always follow Government advice and such other guidance as might be provided to our industry from the Horticultural & Trade Association (HTA).

Many of the measures you will encounter in store will be familiar to you as they will mirror measures adopted in our supermarkets – we will, for example, be asking customers to follow a one-way system around the store and maintain social-distancing (2 metres), etc.  You will also notice:

  • perspex screens around the tills,
  • wider aisles
  • limited customer numbers in the store which may require you to queue outside.

We will also be asking all customers to pay by card or contactless where possible - £45 limit

Our staff teams have received appropriate PPE and receive regular briefings designed to keep themselves and our customers safe.

Our café/restaurant will not be re-opening for some months and any decision to re-open will be informed in the first instance, by Government advice, and then customer feedback.

At present are opening hours for the general public can be found below:

We will also continue to operate a Click & Collect and Home Delivery service

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch by emailing support@azure-gardencentre.co.uk

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Please keep well and keep safe.

Important Information
Azure Charitable Enterprises (and its Garden Centre) plays an active part in our community supporting those with a disability or who are otherwise disadvantaged.

At the present time, we are compelled to protect the personal health and safety of many of our staff who ordinarily provide care services and who themselves have a specific medical illness that means that it is no longer safe for them to attend work. It won’t surprise you to know that in many cases we’ve had to insist that they put themselves first or that their colleagues have selflessly assured them that they will continue to care for the people they have been looking after for many years.

I would like you to know that we have been overwhelmed by the number of Garden Centre staff that have volunteered to be trained to support the delivery of our care services (and provide additional relief for their colleagues) as we seek to respond to this emergency.

Our education programmes will now continue to be delivered remotely and with the support of our Garden Centre staff who have set a number of horticultural challenges and projects for our students to undertake with their families in the coming weeks and months ahead. We hope to share these with you too, shortly.

Thank you for your support and understanding through these difficult and uncertain times.
